Welcome to the Gallatin Department of ElectricityNotice: On line and phone transactions recorded next business day.To pay by telephone call toll free 1-866-612-6971 Starting April 1, 2011, the Gallatin Department of Electricity (GDE) will implement seasonal rates to match the rate structure established by TVA. This will mean slightly higher rates during the high use months, summer and winter, and lower rates during spring and fall. The average GDE customers' annual bill will stay about the same. This price structure is implemented by TVA and is being passed on to the end use customer by power distributors like GDE. TVA is sending a price signal to customers to use less energy during peak months or to use it at lower use times. This is the preface to offering optional Time-of-Day rates sometime in the future. GDE serves approximately 15,500 customers inside the city limits of Gallatin. Residential customers make up roughly 12,900 of that number. As of the latest TVA report (June 30, 2010), GDE has the lowest residential rates in Tennessee. Beginning in January of 2007 a Fuel Cost Adjustment was added to the power bills of all distributors of TVA power. That FCA changes each month either up or down. To apply for electric service, come by the office and complete an Application for Service. You must provide two forms of identification, one of which must be a photo ID. The connection or transfer fee is $25. A deposit for residential service is required. That deposit is determined based upon the customers credit rating. Credit scores return as Green, Yellow or Red. Green score requires no deposit, Yellow score requires $150 deposit and a Red score requires a $300 deposit. An additional $100 deposit is required each time an account is disconnected for non-payment of the bill. A Letter of credit from your previous electric utility is no longer accepted in lieu of a deposit. Commercial deposits vary with the historical usage of the business or the expected use for a new building. Business office is located at 135 Jones Street
