Welcome to the Gallatin Department of Electricity (GDE)

As of June 1, 2015, the Gallatin Department of Electricity has amended and updated our Rules & Regulations that govern how we interact with customers. The Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) acts as GDE's Utility Regulator and has approve these recent changes. GDE is responsible for treating all customers fairly. These Rules & Regulations are guidelines that communicate to the customer how they can interact with GDE. The PDF below is the current TVA approved Rules & Regulations.

GDE serves approximately 17,223 customers inside the city limits of Gallatin as of April 2015. Residential customers make up roughly 14,479 of that number. As of the latest TVA report (January 1, 2015), GDE has the lowest residential rates in Tennessee. Beginning in January of 2007 a Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA) was added to the power bills of all distributors of TVA power. That FCA changes each month either up or down in accordance with fuel requirements of TVA. This cost is passed directly to GDE customers.

To apply for electric service, come by the office and complete an Application for Service. You must provide two forms of identification.

One must include a photograph ID (ex. Drivers License, State ID Card, Passport, U.S. Military ID, etc.)

One must be a State or Government Issued ID (ex. Social Security Card, Birth Certificate, Voter's Registration Card, etc.)

The connection or transfer fee for next or future day service is $35. For same day connection or transfer until 3:00 P.M. the fee is $70 and for same day connection or transfer after 3:00 P.M. the fee is $100. A deposit for residential service is required. That deposit is determined based upon the customers credit risk. Credit risk scores return as Green, Yellow or Red. Green score requires no deposit, Yellow score requires $150 deposit and a Red score requires a $300 deposit. Deposits are returned upon termination of service and all balances paid. A customer may request GDE rerun their credit and the deposit will be refunded according to the scale above and payment of a $7.00 charge for the credit check service. An additional $100 deposit is required each time an account is disconnected for non-payment of the bill. A Letter of credit from your previous electric utility is no longer accepted in lieu of a deposit.

Commercial deposits vary with the historical usage of the business or the expected use for a new building.
